We will look after you in the comfort of your home.

When you care for a loved one it can be truly fulfilling and rewarding, but at the same time it can sometimes put a physical and mental strain on the carer themselves. At Peterson Homecare, we understand that the personal health and wellbeing of the carer is just as important as the person they are providing care to.

In order to support the carer, Peterson Homecare provides services to help the carer maintain their own energy and health whilst providing high quality care to their loved one. Our respite care services can be tailored to fit the individual needs of the carer and client.

What is Respite Care?

Caring for loved ones is an essential and valuable role that we play in our families and

communities, but it can be very demanding and leave your own health and wellbeing as a low priority. It is vitally important that carers are able to care for themselves and maintain their own wellbeing so that they can continue to care for their loved one without jeopardizing their own health

Some instances where a carer may need some respite help is if:

  • They often feel fatigued;
  • They may feel some of their personal needs are being neglected;
  • They haven’t had a holiday or rest during the last year;
  • Their relationship with their loved ones feels strained;
  • There may be a special event coming up that they want to attend; or
  • There are personal matters that they may need to attend to.

Carers can often find it hard to ask for help, but when they do, they are surprised by the

profound difference it can make to their lives and relationships. We are able to provide short-term support, perhaps for a couple of hours or a single day, or longer term which might be once or twice a week. A break and chance to rest, no matter how short, can allow a carer to return to maintain their own health and return feeling refreshed.

We understand that nobody can look after your loved one as well as yourself.

However, we are committed to giving carers a break with the confidence that we will look after their loved one in their absence, to the same high standards of care and support that they are used to receiving from their usual carer. We are able to stay connected to the carer by providing regular updates via phone, email or text message if the carer requires.

At the Initial Consultation the Care Coordinator will discuss the individual circumstance, needs and preferences of the care recipient, and help to work out a customized care plan. We endeavor to work with the carer and the client every step of the way.
